About the Role
The Mechanical Engineer, P.E., develops specifications for new parts or prototypes. Designs, develops, prototypes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Being an Expert Mechanical Engineer uses CAD software and other design and modeling tools to develop and improve parts and products. Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. In addition, Expert Mechanical Engineer conducts analysis and tests to determine weaknesses and failures in prototypes or products. Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Being an Expert Mechanical Engineer works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Working as an Expert Mechanical Engineer typically requires 10+ years of related experience.
Requirements
A mechanical engineer applies principles of engineering, mathematics, and science to analyze, research, design, and develop a variety of products, equipment, and systems. Mechanical engineers may design industrial or manufacturing process systems that utilize robotics and automation. They also design various systems and products for the automotive industry. Mechanical engineers often work closely with engineers in other disciplines to analyze and resolve problems with existing products or systems.
