Biographical Sketch: Mark Lafond, RA, Founding Board Member, OpDez Architecture

Mark is the Founding Board Member of OpDez Architecture, a Web3-enabled Architecture + Engineering studio focused on energy-independent smart buildings (NexGen) and BIM-to-digital-twin delivery. A licensed architect in New York and Virginia and NCARB-certified, he brings more than 25 years of experience leading complex programs across public and private sectors, with over $10 billion in delivered project value. His background includes U.S. government work in Washington, D.C., and other major federal and institutional projects, along with residential and commercial projects.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps officer, Mark leads OpDez’s integrated delivery approach, aligning architecture, building systems, performance modeling, and commissioning-ready handover so projects remain operationally useful after completion. He emphasizes measurable outcomes: energy performance, resilience, comfort, and lifecycle value. Where appropriate, he also explores optional Web3 mechanisms to strengthen permissions, auditability, and governance for multi-stakeholder assets. He holds graduate degrees from Columbia, Harvard, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
